  • Seddon Solutions Ltd became the first construction company to sign the Liverpool Construction Charter

    1st June 2016

Today marked a significant moment as Seddon Solutions Ltd became the first construction company to sign the Liverpool Construction Charter.

The charter, signed by Mayor Joe Anderson alongside the heads of UCAT, Unite and GMB, outlines the minimum standards expected for all construction projects that are procured by Liverpool City Council on behalf of the people of Liverpool.

Amongst other things, the charter states that all companies must ensure that all workers are earning at least the living wage; promote the benefits of belonging to a recognised Trade union; produce a finished product that is of a high standard; and ensure that apprenticeships go to local people.

The charter is a result of many months of hard work between Mayor Joe Anderson, Trade Unions, councillors and officers.

Mayor Anderson said “Today is a very important day for the future of Liverpool construction. We are a city of relentless, honest and truly skilled workers here in Liverpool, they are the unsung heroes of the all the success you see around you.

This charter is the result of a lot of hard work and I would like to pay special tribute to Cllr Joe Hanson who played a significant role in helping make an idea a reality.

As a lifelong trade unionist I am very proud to see Liverpool lead the way in standing for the rights of our workers.

The charter makes our intentions very clear; our workers will not be taken for granted by me or this Labour Council and we will work together for the best future of this city and its people.”
